Apple’s latest mobile touch-based device the iPad, has the potential to be a game-changer in the way consumers surf the web and the way we (web designers) design for it!
Michael Cain, Technical Director for dpi21, sees the iPad as a giant leap forward in the advancement of consumer computing. “All the clever bits of an operating system are locked away beneath a streamlined, simple user interface.”
Web design specialist Steven Taylor agrees, describing it as “the best place right now to experience the web, with a large touch screen, good battery life, who really needs a laptop?”
So will the iPad make waves and change the way we use the web?
“I think so” Says Steven “If we look at the way people are starting to consume web content, we are seeing a shift from desktop PC to laid-back, casual consumption via a mobile-touch device.”
This shift will mean websites will no longer just need to be cross-browser compatible but also work on all devices. This needs to be kept in mind when designing as although the content is the same, the context is different when comparing iPad to desktop browser (P.C or iMac) or a smart phone.
